Entered railway service 1882 as clerk to master mechanic East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railway at Selma, Ala., since which he has been consecutively 1885 to 1886, chief clerk to local agent same road at Macon, Ga.; 1886 to 1887, chief clerk local agent same road and Louisville & Nashville Road at Calera, Ala.; 1887 to 1889, ticket agent East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railway at Selma, Ala.; 1889 to 1893, engaged in the cotton business at Selma ; 1893 to 1894, chief clerk to superintendent East Tennessee, Virginia & Georgia Railway at Macon, Ga. ; 

1894 to 1898, agent Southern Railway at Macon; 1898 to August, 1903, general agent Mobile & Ohio Road at Atlanta, Ga.; August, 1903 to August, 1904, general agent New York & Texas Steamship Company at Atlanta, Ga.; August, 1904, to April 1, 1907, assistant general freight agent Central of Georgia Railway; April 1, 1907, to date, freight traffic manager same road at Savannah, Ga.
