Andrew Jackson Groves


Born Jan. 27, 1838, in Christiana, New Castle County, Delaware.  (Cousin of J. H. Groves, Wesleyan, Class of '65).  Left college during Sophomore year.  (Local preacher in the Methodist Episcopal Church). 
   

1864-5, Captain of United States Colored Troops. 
  

1865-6, Professor of Mathematics in Crittenden's Commercial College, Philadelphia, Pa.

1866-8, Vice Principal of Friend's Academy, Langhorne, Pa.

1871, Principal same.

1868-9, Engaged in mercantile pursuits in Smyrna, Del.

1869-71, Principal of Boy's Academy, Salisbury Md.

Died Dec. 13, 1871, in Langhorne, Bucks County, Pa.
  

1870, Married Anna B. Flowers, of Langhorne, Pa.

Child:  William F.

In 1881, Address of widow:  719 North Second Street, Harrisburg, Pa.
